1/720 USS Nimitz CVN-68 (Monogram)
This is a highly-modified 1/720 scale USS Nimitz model by Monogram, the same kit that was sold throughout the 1980's and into the 1990's. I had to add many details from scratch, including sattelite antennas, RAM launchers, weapons and sensor sponsons, etc. The USS Nimitz is almost a completely different ship now compared to when she entered the Navy in 1975.
Starting with the USS Nimitz, each CVN will undergo a RCOH refueling and overhaul, and will be brought up to the standards of the latest ships. The Nimitz RCOH included complete electronics modernization, complete removal and reconstruction of the upper two levels of the island, and significant rearrangement of radars, similar to the CVN 76 configuration. The USS Eisenhower is now undergoing a similar overhaul.
