1/200 FS aircraft carrier Arromanches (Scratchbuit)
This model is completely scratchbuilding at 1/200 scale. The model was build during 2 years. I would like to represent a model of the french navy aircraft carrier Arromanches (R95) in her late state appearance in 1972/73. This ship is quite interesting because she was first used by Royal navy as HMS Colossus at the end of world war 2 (British Pacific Fleet). The aircraft carrier was used after an agreement with United kingdom by french navy from 1946 and was intensely used during the Indochina war in support french expeditionnary troops. The carrier saw another fights during the suez crisis in 1956. She was little bit refited in 1957/58 with an angle deck and was used after 1958 as ASW aircraft carrier with Breguet Alizé and HSS (french build H34) and training carrier for the young pilots of "Aéronavale". Arromanches was decommissioned offically in january 1974. She was based at Toulon military harbor. To build the model, I have to draw a ship plans first because it doesn't exist in angle deck appearance. During several weeks I draw a plans with informations from the Musee de la marine ship plans and informations from officials sources especially for the 1958 angle deck and island modifications. The model was scrachtbuilding with plastic card. I mold several subjects, of course the helicopters and aircrafts ! On the deck, we can see French build Breguet Alizé, Fouga Zephyr, Sud Aviation Alouette II and Sud Aviation HHS 1 with colorful paints. I used photoetched railing from L'arsenal.
I am true fan of the Colossus / majestic class aircraft carrier. I hope that modelers enjoy this model.
