1/600 HMS Ark Royal (Airfix)
I recently built the Airfix 1/600 HMS Ark Royal. The Ark Royal of early WW2 had a short career. Perhaps its most famous contribution to the defeat of the German Navy was the strike by her Swordfish torpedo planes which crippled the German Battleship Bismarck.
I built this kit as a continuation of the Bismarck story told in scale model and 3D on my website. The Airfix Ark Royal kit itself is (I think) out of production. I picked it up on eBay many moons ago. It was a "sketchy" kit. There was a lot of flash and no decals. I painted the markings on the few planes provided.
The ship was painted nuetral gray and the topsides were painted gunship gray. I particularly enjoyed weathering her up for the brutal North Atlantic.
I've attached some pics of the kit built OOB. I would like to find a British flag and attach it to some stretched sprue rigging.
