IJN Shinano
by Mike Brown

1/450 IJN Shinano (Hasegawa)

This is my first submission though I have been a daily viewer for years. Up until this point I didn't feel I had a worthy addition to the site but I hope this model will interest you. I generally build out of box with some scratch building. I hope to venture into using photo etch and give rigging a whirl but this build was without these additions. The kit is the old Hasegawa Shinano that I paid a hideous amount for after a bidding war on a popular auction site we all know well. The kit is fair at best with the worst thing about it being the screw down flight deck followed by the fit of the flight deck to hull. I used most everything in the kit but scratch built the simple radar set and removed some of the thick molded on rigging. I painted her in what I hope was a close approximation of her on her final voyage. I haven't seen another 1/450 Shinano on this site so I hope you enjoy her. The model took 14 months to complete. I want to thank my daughter Kayleigh for taking the photos as I have no skill with a camera.
