DD-239 USS Overton as she appeared in the Alantic in 1944. Ship is in Measure 22 camouflage.
Ship kit used in building the Overton was White Ensign Models DD-245
USS Reuben James in 1/350 scale. Why did I bother to convert one
version of
a 4 piper to another you ask? The Reuben James version is a fine
ship but the escort type destroyer portrayed in the kit was a little early
for me. The WEM kit showed the 4 stacker in her early 1941 mode right
after conversion. This was a little to early for me and I didn't
like the Measure 2 camouflaged the ship carried then.
Instead I did a little converting: Modified the bridge (got rid of those square portholes and replaced with later round ones), put a cap on the forward funnel, added 20mm guns and their mounting half tubs instead of the provided early '41 .50 cal brownings, added the later war K-Guns and D.C. storage along with newer racks at the stern, added the new YE surface search and SC air search radar's to forward mast, and modified boat and life raft storage for the 1944 time period. Lastly painted the ship to reflect her Measure 22 Camouflage she wore in '44.
