USS Somers

1/350 USS Somers DD-381 (Yankee Modelworks)

If you read my article about building resin ships, this is the finished model. It is the YMW kit with some scratchbuilding to better detail it. The model is finished in prewar #5 standard navy grey with #20 deck grey decks as she was in 1938. The bridge interior is painted light green per Painting and Cementing of Vessels and the ship's boats are white, black bottoms and bright woodwork. All paints are acrylics except the darker rigging and antennas which are MM metalizer titanium. The boats cranes and mast stays are stainless steel music wire and the rest of the rigging is silk suture. The main barrels are brass, the 1.1” and 20mm's are all from L'Arsenal. The sharp eyed will find the whistle pull I rigged.
