USS Johnston DD-557

1/700 USS Johnston DD-557 (Tamiya)

This is my 1/700 USS Johnston DD-557 built using Tamiya's 1/700 USS Cushing kit. Originally I wanted to build it as what she appeared at the battle off Samar. Lack of reference forced me to settle for her 1943 fit. Besides the usual scratch-built bits and pieces PE parts used are,

• GMM's WW2 US Cruiser/Destroyer Set.
• Tom's WW2 US Radar Set and Floatation Basket Set.
• WEM's Twin 40mm Bofors Set. I didn't like the way PE gun barrels look. I substituted those with parts from Tamiya's 1/700 Missouri kit.

Rigging was from stretched sprues. Sea base was built on the base of an IMEX HO rail car display case so that the finished model will sit nicely inside that display case.
