DD-591 USS Twiggs
By Pat M![]()
1/125 USS Twiggs DD-591 (Lindberg Blue Devil)Inspired (or misguided) by Jeff Herne's article on fixing the Lindy Fletch, I dove in. As I had no intention of making a museum model, but rather an R/C model strongly suggestive of a Fletcher, I was able to complete the project with my sanity intact.
R/C mods include: Twin drive with 25mm Raboesch props on 1/8" stainless shafting; the twin rudders were used (good for R/C), but were sleeved and bushed for better fit; and the turrets and Mk37 are rigged for simultaneous 180° rotation, with their servo Y'd into the rudder servo... makes for lots of activity as the boat steers a course!
Topside, we have the Twigg's MS32/6d camo, soldered brass wire railings, scratch mast and radar, a somewhat improved Mk37 director radar, new depth charge racks, anchor, and HR Products 20's and 40's (not installed here).
Twiggs earned four battle stars before being lost to kamikaze attack at Okinawa. 162 crewmen remain on duty.
Attached: A couple pix on the pond, and some details, including some of the turret linkage.
