This is the USS Nields DD-616. The Nields was a Benson class destroyer commissioned on 15 January 1943 . I modeled her as she appeared after her late war anti-kamikaze refit in mid-1945. The main changes during this refit were removing her torpedo tubes as well as her starboard anchor and whaleboat to allow for the addition of more anti-aircraft guns.
DD-616 USS Nields was named after one of my relatives (my grandmother's maiden name is Nields). Henry C. Nields was an officer in the United States Navy during the American Civil War.
