1/500 USS Frank Knox DD-742 (Scratchbuilt)
My attempt at a Gearing class destroyer, using Squadron Signal line drawings and my bottomless 1/500 parts box, this is what came out. I used the 5" 38's from Matt Stein for the main battery only this time I added carley floats which I cut out of a Revell KGV. While I wait for the forthcoming 40mm's and mark 37 fire control pieces from Matt Stein, I used cut up kit pieces from Revell. I needed a pair of 40mm twin mounts and these came by cutting one quad in half(get two that-a -way). The bridge is wood,brass strip, and a piece of a Lindberg DE. Lindberg also supplied the really good mast which now has PE radar on it As usual, a cedar hull is used along with a piece of my wife's jewelry for anchor chain. .
