USS Barney DDG-6

1/350 USS Barney DDG-6 (White Ensign Models)

The kit is from WEM and one of the best I have ever build. A lot of pictures of the original can be found in the internet under the Barney Homepage. Before assembly starts we have to deal with an important point, to get a realistic look: bulwarks and platforms are always a bit on the thick side. So you are better off when you sand them thinner. Next points to deal with were mast and stacks. They are always a keypunch concerning attention. I always solder the masts using different brass tubes and profiles to avoid bending under the stress of rigging. For rigging I use copper wire as you can find it in old telephone bobbins. It’s thin, will not break and is easy to paint.

Conclusion: A very nice kit that offers a lot of opportunities for variations and additions.
