1/350 USS Zumwalt DDG-1000 (Scratchbuilt)
I have been interested in DDG destroyers. I came across an article on the new DDG Zumwalt destroyer and decided this would make a good scratch built Navy ship. I started in September 2008 researching information about the Zumwalt class destroyer. No scale information is available. I found that the only thing was to scale photos down to 1/350 scale and build from them. The hull was the big challenge. I spent hours building and rebuilding the hull. In February 2009 I finished the model. I used Gold Medal Models photo etched parts, railing, doors.and hatches. I used Trumpeter MH-60S Knighthawk 1/350 helicopter and scratch built the RQ-8B Navy Fire scout.
