1/350 USS Bainbridge DDG-96 (Trumpeter)
This is a little condensed scene of the USS Bainbridge involved in the Captain Phillips rescue stemming from the 2009 MV Maersk Alabama hijacking by Somali pirates. The base kit was the Trumpeter 1/350 USS Momsen. Few modifications had to be made, mostly radar and lifeboat canister changes. The Momsen kit is very nice, however, I found constructing the bulkheads rather a challenge. Most of the surface detail was removed and replaced with PE. Most small fittings were also replaced with Veteran Models resin parts or from the parts box. The Maersk Alabama lifeboat was scratch built.
It should be noted that the Bainbridge may not have carried her stern CIWS Phalanx at this time, but I added it anyway. Overall it was a fun project, and I am happy to add a modern destroyer to the collection.
