1/350 USS USS Burden R. Hastings DE-19 Destroyer Escort (Iron Shipwrights)
This is the Commander Series Evart Class (Short Hull) destroyer escort kit built as the U.S.S. Burden R. Hastings.  I chose this particular ship because of the camouflage scheme and the fact that the ship sank a submarine in the Marshall Island area in 1944. This was a fun "build". I added scratch-built 3" loading machine, 24" searchlights, signal lamps, speakers, brass mast/details. L'Arsenal's 20mm guns, 1.1" quad mount, 3"50 guns, MK 51 director, whaleboat, life rafts, floater nets, and SA radar were also used. The photo-etch pieces used were a combination of the kit's, GMM's, and Tom's Modelworks. Halyards, radio wires and support rigging were .002", .003", and .004" dia nylon fishing line. The model was painted in the Measure 23/9D scheme (5-L, 5-O, & Dull Black hull and 5-O & 20B deck) using Model Master Marine acrylics. This model took about 100 hours to complete.
