1/350 USS Jaccard DE-355 (Iron Shipwright)
This is Iron Shipwright's (ISW's) 1/350 scale Butler Class destroyer escort kit configured as the USS Jaccard. I chose to model this ship because of its unique camouflage scheme of Measure 32/3x on the starboard side and Measure 33/3x on the port side. This was done for a 1944 camouflage test.
The hull/superstructure did require a bit of clean up and numerous pinholes
filled; but, nothing overly difficult. The mast/details were made from
brass rods/tubing/pieces; and, the MK 52 director scratch-built. I added
L'Arsenal's 5" brass barrels (the kit's 5" gun houses were the correct
DE configuration), 20mm guns, life rafts, floater net baskets, MK 51 gun
directors, SA radar, bridge details, and "netted" railings. I also used
Alliance Models twin 40mm mount (very good) and Gold Medal Models hedgehog
mount and radio detection antenna (from the England DE PE sheet). Rigging
was Caenis and .004" dia. nylon thread. Painting the model in this different
camouflage scheme took some time using Model Master acrylic paints. I expended
about a 100 hours on this "build". I was very satisfied with the result.
