USS Buckley DE-51

1/240 USS Buckley DE-51 (Revell)

Revell's 1/240 scale model of the USS Buckley is a kit I consider to be an oldie but a goodie although not nearly as precise as the 1/350 Trumpeter version of the class. The 1,400 ton class leader Buckley, launched in 1943, was armed with three 3" guns, 8 20mm guns, and 3 21 inch torpedo tubes and could make 24 knots with her turbine-electric drive. Buckley's claim to fame was when she rammed and sank U66 in 1944. She was finally scrapped out in 1968 but not before serving for a time as a radar pickett ship.
