1/350 USS England DE-635 (Trumpeter)

This is the Trumpeter 1/350 USS England kit. I received this model as a Christmas present from my son. I then purchased the Gold Medal Models Photo Etch #350-38 Buckley/England to add all the fine details. I began work in July ’09 after completing my Buchanan. The build was straight forward after reading the CASF USS Buckley / RN Captain class thread. My kit had the same problems pointed out by Tracy, Buckley, Devin, Avery and Gordon so I had their collective experience to help me with a good start. Thanks to Roger Torgeson for his assistance with getting all the bits and pieces in the right places. The England ships in the gallery, especially from Timothy Choi and Ed MacDonald inspired me to do my best.

I dumped the stand supplied in the kit and made a stand similar to the one from the Cyber-Hobbies Buchanan kit using a block of hard wood and lamp risers. The stand came in handy throughout my build to keep the ship in place on my workbench.

I used layers of primer to add hull plating. Then Polly Scale acrylic paints, 5N for vertical surfaces, and 20B for decks. Tamiya acrylic hull red was used below the boot topping. Future was sprayed on the hull before decals and then Testors Dullcote lacquer after to tone down the gloss. At least for me, the Dullcote doesn’t quite get back to a flat finish that I want. I did a lot scratch-building to add detail from the main deck up.

Included additions;

I am humbled to have my models in this gallery among all these finely crafted ships.
