Vampire was one of three Daring Class DDs built in Australia in the 1950s. One Voyager was lost in 1964 after collision with the Aircraft Carrier Melbourne. Vampire and her sister Vendetta were modernised to the form shown in the model at incredible expense, and immediately put up for disposal.
The wastefulness of Australian governments in naval matters is extraordinary.
Vampire was given to the National Maritime Museum in Sydney and so has been preserved.
The entire kit, including some truly superb photo-etch is by OzMods - an Australian company. US purchasers can get it through Pacific Front Models.
