HMS Onslow
by Bruno Gillet

1/700 HMS Onslow (Tamiya)

This model is one of the two class O destroyers included in the tamiya kit ref. 31904. The second one will be built later.

It is my fourth warship model. The third is not shared as having been badly engaged in an unfair fight by a cat. The cat won. Too bad...

It has been painted with Gunze and Tamiya acrylics for basic colors. Weathering have been done with both Winsor & Newton artist oils and Prince August/Vallejo acrylics.

Masking was done with tamiya yellow masking tape.

I'm not that sure oils are a good option at that size/scale. Same notice as chalk pastels on my previous Hirashima. It is obviously possible to use oils, but then it will be extremly time consuming for a result not better than quicker acrylic weathering.

I will probably give it another try anyway.

Rigging was done with Nylon transparent siewing thread, then painted black. Glueing was painful as I did not use the good technique. Since then I got hints about it from the forums and will give it another try later (thx. Pachi).

The sea was improved by painting darker/lighter Blue/Green areas before applying the acrylic medium, then painting/washing and dry brushing it following the guessed patterns and colors.
