The inspiration for this project was the series of books by Alan Raven et al which show the camouflage schemes of a vast range of RN WW2 ships.
When I checked out the colours and realised that I had a gash Airfix Campbeltown complete with some generic WEM etch brass and a healthy 1/600 scale "spares" box; the thought was that it would be an easy conversion project occurred...!
So I scratch-built the masts and screw fenders from brass wire, the radar and mid-ships superstructure from plastic. The after gun's shield and the crow's nest are from lead foil, ship's boats, masthead radar and 20mm are from WEM (again!), with rigging made of lycra and monofilament.
My one (major) mistake in the project was fitting a quad torpedo tube set instead of the correct triple...!
Since I finished it, I have been inspired to try others (vis HMS Orpheus) and currently I am scratch building an HMS Ark Royal (1915) - including aeroplanes, and the Airfix HMS Daring in 1/600. I also have a Revell Campbeltown to do a "proper" Roxboro' in a more suitable scale....
