HMS Sheffield
by Phil Reeder

1/350 HMS Sheffield (White Ensign Kitbash)

I saw the Shiny Sheff in 1981,a few months before she sailed south with the Falklands Task Force, never to return. I have a family connection with her as my cousin was in her when she was hit by the Exocet, luckily he survivied.

A few months ago I had chance to buy the long out of production WEM kit of the Nottingham, which of course I took with both hands. The kit is of a Batch 2 T42, so a few changes were needed to make it into a Batch 1 vessel. Helped by the Jecobin plan of the Sheff, I made the required alterations. These centered around the funnel area with other minor details. Although the WEM kit was made in 1998, it is still an excellent kit; what a pity there will be no more issued (Before you all start pestering Mr & Mrs WEM there will Not be a new T42 from WEM!!) Instead start pestering Airfix!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the build, and hopefully I will show to my cousin.
