1/128 HMS Somali F33 (scratchbuilt) by Gordon Brooks

Somali as she appeared in first part of 1942  The model was built in honor of my father who one of the 82 who survived her torpedoing on 20 Sept. 1942. She was torpedoed by a German sub U703 west of Bear Island. She listed badly. Somali was taken in tow by HMS ASHANTI, wounded and nonessential crew where taken of by HM Trawler LORD MIDDELTON. Somali sank after her back broke in a gale 82 crew lost. Sisters HMS ESKIMO and ASHANTI rescued the survivors.

The hull is made of plaster of Paris which i excessively use in my job in the ceramic industry. The superstructure is blocks of plaster covered in plastic card. The sea is resin which i first moulded in plaster.
