1/700 ORP Slazak (IBG)

ORP Slazak was a Hunt-class destroyer originally built for the Royal Navy in 1940 as HMS Bedale. She was commissioned by the Polish Navy in 1942. During WWII, she took part in 32 patrols and escorted 104 convoys (during which her crew is credited with downing 5 enemy aircraft). ?l?zak was one of 8 Hunt-class destroyers to take part in the Dieppe Raid during which she rescues 85 soldiers of the Royal Regiment of Canada who were trapped on the beach after the landing. During Operation Neptune, Slazak  supported the landing at Sword Beach as the lead destroyer of the minesweeping flotilla on D-Day. ?l?zak was transferred back to the Royal Navy in 1946.

This model was built out-of-the-box, but with a few modifications based on available photos of Slazak: I eliminated the bow flagstaff, made the rear mast taller, and added life rafts to the sides of the superstructure. Rather than use the kit parts, I made the masts out of soldered brass rod, and I added some PE sailors from Eduard. The sea base is MDF, painted with acrylics, and coated with Modpodge and MIG Ultras glue for texture, and a final coat of clear gloss acrylic varnish.
