Gremyashchy

1/700 Gremyashchy (DML)

This is the Sovremenny Class destroyer "Gremyashchy" (Thunderous). It is one of the two Sovremennys assigned to the Northern Fleet and will be part of a Russian surface action group that I plan on completing someday.

The ship was built out of DMLs "Russian Sovremenny Class Destroyer" kit. I had originally thought that the PE parts that came with the kit were sufficient but I changed my mind once I found that there were no PE parts supplied for the foremast. I therefore used GMM's excellent PE alternative and replaced almost every part that came with the kit except for a large number of railings which were also taken from other previously used sets that had left over railings.

Other than that, it was a good kit to build with the usual minor things that need to be corrected. However, the fact that all superstructures are already part of the upper hull made it more difficult to paint the decks. Further detailing is done with copper wire. The rigging is made out of stretched sprue. The colors used are from WEM, as well as various other companies. The water is modeled with what has now become my favorite method: acrylic paint and 3D model paste on a glass plate.
