1/350 Osmotritelnyy (Trumpeter)

These pictures show my first attempt to use PE to upgrade a model. Shown Sovremenny class Project 956E Osmotritelnyy destroyer 1/350 from Trumpeter was built out of the box plus using WEM Sovremenny PE-kit. My purpose was to show a “what if” scene: Former USSR had delivered 2 ships to Chinese Navy of which one returns to serve in the USSR navy again after spending a long time at sea at rough conditions, resulting in a messy overall condition with rusty deck equipment, dirty guns and S-A missile launching places plus various oil spills on deck. Although not proven correct by history, I decided to give my model the old-fashioned colour scheme of black aft ship section, found often on 80’s corvettes and frigates serving former USSR navy. The model was hand painted ( Revell colours 302 black, 374 grey and 83 rust ). Antennas and wiring are made of stretched sprue, the water surface is made from alu-foil, painted and covered with silicone with little white waves. I can highly recommend this model for it’s perfect fitting, making sanding etc. not necessary.
