Russian Destroyer Silny Port Arthur, Summer 1904 Combrig, 1/700
This build has an interesting history, the model was built by me about 7 or 8 years ago as a destroyer Stereguschij. Couple of years after the build was complete it got pretty badly damaged on the way back from one of the competitions with the mast and two of the stacks destroyed as well as photoetch bent. And it sat on the shelf on that sad state until last fall when I received a Combrig 350th scale kit of the Silny. I decided to use the kit as a pattern and rebuild my 700 scale kit. I decided to start from scratch and removed all of the details from the hull, fixed a number of dimensional errors and rebuilt all of the small details from scratch. The 75mm guns were also scratchbuilt and the 47mm guns and torpedo tubes were detailed. I used Lion Roar photoetch for the railings, while the gun platforms were made from the sides of the 72 scale T-34 tank fuel tanks.
The kit was painted using the PollyS paints, unfortunately Testors bought PollyS and replaced the colors in their bottles with their, a fact that I realized after buying two bottles of the RLM62 Pale Green that I’ve been using for my RJW green and realizing that it is a completely different shade of green. I ended up having to mix the colors myself.ted with a mix of PollyS acrylics and Model Master enamels, weathered with pastels.
