Sovremenny
by Timothy Choi
1/350 Sovremenny (Trumpeter)
This ship won first place at the IPMS
Vancouver Fall Show 2005, under the catagory of Junior, Naval. Lower
hull and large decks airbrushed, the rest is hand-painted. Lost the fore-right
wheel of the chopper while trying to reposition it. Construction, on and
off, was a total of 3 or 4 months. I plan on putting it onto a waterbase
later. Kit is OOB other than the following modifications:
-
Drilled open the main gun barrel tips
-
Added flag staves to the bow and stern
-
Used stretched sprue for rigging
-
Electrical wire for antennae
Paints used were:
Gunze Sangyo Aqueous Hobby Colours:
-
H14 Orange for orange decks
-
Dark Gray (2) for Japanese Naval vessels for the main deck
-
H2 Black for rear mast
-
H11 White for waterline stripe and radar domes
Model Master Enamels:
-
1725 Neutral Gray for superstructure
-
1730 Flt. Gull Gray for above waterline hull (was lightly spayed over with
above mentioned Black to lessen the 'yellowish' shade of the colour and
to weather.)
