This is the Trumpeter 1/350 Udaloy with WEM's photo etched set. I built it as a water line model. This model is a joy to build. The kit parts are good. And the good WEM set covers everything on the ship but you really need a steady hand to do all the delicated assembly. I am so satisfy with the photo etched masts.
The whole model is by Tamiya can spray. All vertical surfaces AS-10, main deck TS-69 and upper decks TS-12. To avoid the upper decks appearing too orange, I sprayed the decks with AS-10 first and then applied a very very thin layer of TS-12. The goal is to have an orange color not too solid so it looks natural. The whole ship was applied a black enamel wash, then a very thin layer of matt clear.
For the antennae I used 0.2mm stainless steel wire that I purchased long time ago in a local model shop. The wire should be manufactured in Spain, I guess. (Ed.-Minimeca?) For 1/700 models this might be too thick, but for 1/350 models I think it is better than sprue stretching, at least I worked way better with S.S. wire.
I added quite a minimum of self construction, say, the flag mast at the bow, the wires (I actually don't know what it is) along the outside of canon barrel, the small platform on both sides of the bridge, the antennae base (by 1mm square rod), supporting robs under the base of Cross Sword SAM radars, the antennae on the side of the funnels.
The base is actually a piece of glass with the bottom sprayed in blue.
This is a model kit and accessories highly recommended.
