1/700 IJN Junyo and Nachi (Tamiya & Hasegawa) |
| These are the Tamiya 1/700 scale IJN Aircraft Carrier Junyo and the
1/700 scale IJN Nachi by Hasegawa. These kits are very good even
building them straight out of the box. The fits are satisfactory,
and the details are fine. Everything in this kit was made out-of-the-box
except for the railings and strips of decals for the deck. All additional
antennae was made out of stretched sprues.
I painted the Nachi with Modelmaster Gunship Gray. This darkness allowed me to apply a bit of gray pastel to simulate weathering and raised areas. The deck was handpainted painted with Tamiya Buff acrylic paint and was washed with Burnt Sienna oils to make them a little darker after drying. This IJN Nachi was done in one week since it had to make it for an internal IPMS ship contest. The IJN Aircraft Carrier Junyo is a great model to work with. No problems on the assembly. The Junyo used a deck camouflage scheme that was similar to the IJN Taiyo and Chitose. Later, it was requested to be removed in 1944 by it own flight crew. Only its hull camouflage pattern was retained. I used Tamiya Deep Green and about 10% Flat White to get the Light Green color of the hull. I used 3% of Flat White to get the darker shade of Green also for the hull. The deck was colored with Deep Green + 5% Flat White, Deep Green and 15% Flat White, Desert Yellow, Light Gray, Flat Red (for the stern stripes and Deck Tan. All holes of these ships were bored open. I used pastels to weather both ships to their final color. I also used GMM decals for the aircraft. |
