1/350 PT-505 Rescue (WEM & L'Arsenal)

PT-505 was patrolling off the coast of Normandy France on D-Day when she was damaged by a mine.  She was towed to a small island where German patrols watched her overnight.  Part of the crew stayed on board that evening and neither side fired on the other.  The next day two LCM's pulled her to safety so that her hull could be patched prior to being towed back to Portland, England for final repair.  This model depicts PT-505 being towed to safety by the two LCM's, one purpose configured for ship/boat salvage.  This build is dedicated to Mr. Joe Frank a surviving member of this boat currently residing at the VA in Denver.

For this build PT-505 was made from a modified White Ensign Models PT-109 kit which includes a nice resin hull and photoetch set.  To convert her to PT-505 I added an L'Arsenal 40mm Bofors,  two Alliance Models 20mm Oerlikon bases, Master Models 20mm Oerlikon mount,  Admiralty Models whip antenna, Hawk Graphics markings, and L'Arsenal figures.  The LCM's are from L'Arsenal which includes resin hulls and photoetch enhancements.  The base was created using a method I learned from Frank Spahr which includes a foam base and 3 coats of latex house paint stippled on.  Finally it was covered with Acrylic artist colors and topped with Future floor polish.
