1/700 USS Knox FF-1052 (AFV Club)
Here is a great little kit of an unsung workhorse of the Cold War. No US Navy 1/700 fleet should be with-out a Knox class frigate.
It took me a while to find an AFG Club Knox class frigate kit. Due to decreasing stock numbers of the kit in on-line hobby shops, the kit price varies greatly from $12-25 (as of 2012 when the model was purchased). With a little diligence, one can still find a shop that has this great little kit on its stock shelves.
I have zero prior experience with AFG Club other than the knowledge that they predominately make aircraft models. I was really surprised with the level of detail for such a small kit and relatively unknown kit maker with respect to ship models. This kit took me approximately two weeks to complete and was fun from start to finish.
The SH-2 Seasprite that came with the kit was accurate enough for 1/700
purposes. I painted the Seasprite in Testors-Flat Sea Blue. The PE
was a combination of GMM-modern US warships and Tom generic rail PE set.
My standard Valspar gray primer, Modelmasters Light Ghost Gray, and Navy
Gloss Gray were applied to this model.
