1/700 Alvaro De Bazan & Mendez Nunez (Big Blue Boy)
No, there is nothing wrong with your eyes – you ARE seeing double.
Latest from my favorite patron is a matched set of Spanish Aegis Frigates
from Big Blue Boy out of China. I had never seen a Big Blue Boy kit,
but I have to say I was very surprised. Included in the kit is the
resin hull and small parts as well as two PE frets complete with significant
detail, as well as full decals for all the ships in the class. The
resin pour is very good (MUCH better than Combrig and light years ahead
of Midship). Very little sanding or other prep work to get it into
shape. Much of the rest of the ship is done in PE. While it
does require some experience with PE, and the radar masts etc. are as fine
and delicate as I have seen in this scale, they all fit together well and
allow for great detail. The kit even includes turned brass barrels
for the main gun AND for the life raft canisters. No unsightly seams.
Instructions are completely pictographic and in color making the build
pretty straightforward.
