US Lighthouse Service Tender Marigold
By Al Blevins
1/64 Lighthouse Service Tender Marigold (scratchbuilt)This is a scratchbuilt 3/16 inch = 1 foot scale model of the US Lighthouse Service Tender Marigold. The ship was built in 1890 and was the longest serving tender, at fifty years, in the Service. She was transferred to the USCG in 1939 when that service took over the Lighthouse Service. Marigold served primarily in the Great Lakes and was home ported in Detroit
The model is a solid hull bread and butter construction portraying the ship in the mid-1930's configuration. It was built as part of a commission which included a painting of the ship and a table/case.
