Ship Collection Part 3

1/500 Ship Collection Part 3 (Revell/Scratchbuilt)

This is Nevada, New York, and Pennslvania. All 3 were guests of the AEC in 1946. All 3 were at Bikini Able. I could not bring myself to paint my Nevada orange! That honor fell upon my father for his last detail on board. Men were crying while they worked. I think I can understand. Nevada was ground zero for the Able drop and still did not sink. None of them did! To quote a line from one of the Governor of California's old movies "Ain't no way for a soldier to die."

All 3 vessels are in 1/500 with cedar hulls (we have a lot of cedar up here in the northwest). I used parts from the Revell Arizona for superstructures and weapons, 40mm's from Missouri, and various bits of plastic. All 3 have GMM PE for details.

To loosely quote Mr. Helfrich, whose work in this gallery I greatly admire: "conversion accuracy is secondary to the fun of doing it!"

PS: My dad was on the USS Nevada from Pearl Harbor to the end. He loved that ship; it got me started modeling.
