This show was held in the town of Szolnok which is situated on the middle part of Hungary. There is an air base there, home of the 89th Transport Air wing. The show was held in the officer's club of the air base. My friends and I visited the show and although there were only a handful of ships there, I've taken a few pictures and I’d like to share them with you.
The first is a Revell Ark Royal in 1/720 which was built straight out of box I think it's a very good work. There were an interesting tanker in 1/200 which is not a scratchbuilt kit but unfortunately I forgot to write down the manufacturers name. There were two Italeri/Dragon kits, the USS Ohio and USS Gettysburg.
This is the point where I have to introduce Mr. István Suránszky. The above mentioned two kits are his works but probably you've already noticed the large carrier on the first picture. She is the USS George Washington and except the aircraft's, it's a scratchbuilt kit. She is also Mr. Suránszky’s work. I’ve spoken with him and he told me he had taken an 1/720 Italeri kit and manufactured the parts in 1/400 scale. The material he used is plastic. I mean plastic boards which were used as labor safety boards (usually safety notices are written to these boards: high voltage, low pressure, wear protection glasses etc.). Mr. Suránszky also told me that he sent photos to the captain of the ship about two years ago and he really liked his work. I intend to visit this gentlemen in his home because he told me he has a collection of scratchbuilt American ships.
The rest of the kits were submarines and sailing ships like the ’Wappen
von Hamburg’ and ’Victory’.
