Motorex 2002 from IPMS Philippines

The IPMS Philippines lately organized a national competition open to all modelers and collectors of plastic model kits. The categories ranged from Jet aircraft, propeller aircraft, helicopters, armor vehicles, military and sci-fi figures, dioramas and ships. There were sub-categories on Scales for each of these major categories.  The event was launched side-by-side with a Land, Sea and Air Motorshow entitled "Motorex". The organizers of this motorshow partly sponsored the IPMS contests. People who judged the contest came from local hobby shops (are modelers themselves) and from non-participating IPMS modelers. The models were displayed at the famous Harrison Plaza Mall in Manila for a whole week and the awarding will be held this September 15, 2002.

There were a low turnout of ship entries.  The club suspects that many entries have not made it to the deadline because of the recent stormy weather in the country plus the fact that some of the club's avid ship modelers decided to be judges which prevented themselves from joining the contest. From the pics you see, there were two USS Enterprise kits that were entered. One was mine, which was built by Jun Villalon and myself,  while the other was from a fellow IPMS member.  I have included pics of the other major categories just for you to see the what was in the event.

IPMS Philippines has consistently been active in exhibits for several events in the past.  These exhibits differ in theme and venue.  Even if the population of Filipino modelers is far less than the club's international counterparts, the contributions made by its members often surpassed the venue's capacity.  It is not only in the quantity of entries has IPMS excelled on but also in the quality of the kits that have been displayed. For instance, one of our members scratchbuilt this albatross aircraft from styrene and brass parts.
