1/350 HMS Aubretia (Black Cat Models)
I had completed this model a while back and I am just now getting around to submitting to the Model Warships Gallery. The basis for this kit is the excellent Black Cat Models HMS Begonia kit. While doing some research for my build, I came across a color rendition of HMS Aubretia in Shipcraft Special Number 1 on Flower Class Corvettes. In the image, she was painted Mountbatten Pink which gave me a reason to use my Colourcoats tinlet of that color. Also, the blue and yellow checkered funnel band added a bit of color to an otherwise drab ship.The model is built out of the box but with a few add ons. The funnel band is a decal that I printed at home, the White Ensign came from the Gold Medal Models flag set and the draft markings came from another aftermarket decal sheet, but I cannot recall the maker. To me, a ship without draft markings is pretty much naked. The rigging is .005-inch Nitinol wire and the crew is from my stash of old resin L'Arsenal firgures. Model was placed into an opening I made in foam posterboard to accommodate the full hull model and the water is acrylic gel medium painted with artist acrylic paints and sealed with some Future floor gloss from a bottle that I still have.
