1/700 IJN Submarine Chaser type No. 13 (1939/1944) (Tamiya)

This model is the smaller one of the three different ships included in Tamiya 1/700 WWII Japanese Navy Auxiliary Vessels, ref.31519. I warmly recommend this kit to beginners on naval modeling; small and simple ships, lovely once built, all for a real low price that you shouldn't fear trying new techniques.

It has been built out of the box except for railing, added from an Eduard PE set.

Paints used were Gunze for basic colors, Pebeo and Prince August (Vallejo) for weathering. All are acrylic. Rigging was done using glove threads, and it is absolutely awful. (Since then I have tried other techniques and materials, thanks to the How To and the forums of this site)

The base was scratched for a few (Euro) cents. It is awful as well, but was intended as a first try. I improved the technique on the following ones.

The sea was made of acrylic medium (thanks again to the How To and forums) and painted with Pebeo acrylics.

This is the first 1/700 vessel I have built. I tried a lot on it and the ones that followed during this 2005 summer. I will submit them for the gallery as pictures are taken, as it could help beginners to see my mistakes, how I tried to improve the ship after, and how well I succeeded... or failed.

Feel free to send me any feedback thru my PM on this site.
