1/9 Mirage "Wolverine (Dumas/Scratch)
If a racing boat is "campaigned", does that make it a warship? Ah well, I won't worry too much about it!
"Wolverine" was originally campaigned by Pete Smith of the Smith Brothers
Offshore Racing Team in the 1980's. She is a 29 foot Mirage powered by
twin big block Chevys. The current owners recently completed an upgrade/restoration
and desired a large scale display model. Starting with a vintage Dumas
40" fiberglass hull, I built up an all new fairing, cockpit and engine
cover. All detail parts were designed in CAD with dimensions taken from
the boat, and then 3D printed with high resolution processes. These details
include everything from the instrument bezels to the bolster cushion and
the complete outdrives and trim tabs. Graphics are a combination of custom
printed water slide decals and multi-layer cut vinyl. The blue DuPont paint
was provided by the restored boat's painter for a perfect match... no WEM
color chips required! And of course, no weathering-- only buffed
wax.
