Kandahar

1/142 Trawler Kandahar (Revell Germany)

Here is my Revell fishing trawler 'Kandahar". I really enjoy these fishing vessels and I have attempted to depict her in a state of heavy weathering whilst in drydock awaiting cleaning, antifouling, etc. The model was painted with Humbol enamels and weathered with a combination of acrylic washes and pastel chalk. I paid particular attention to the deck as I wanted that real dirty wood deck look. I'm happy with the result. The'crusty' areas along the bow and on the waterline is a combination of acrylic gel medium and ssome clumps of Tamiya Putty placed on the kit and allowed to dry. This gives a very good 'rough look' which I then painted and washed. The porthole windows were 'coloured in' with a Progressor 2B lead pencil to give that shiny window look. The canvas cover on the life boat is tiusse paper that was placed over the kit's life boat and then washed with diluted white glue. The cover was weathered when dry. The rust on the handrails, etc is pastel chalk in differing shades of orange - remembering that rust always falls down with the brightest orange (new rust) appearing at the top.

The base is balsa wood and the keel blocks are pre-sized balsa blocks. I had a bit of a time lining them up on the base so that they would stand in the middle and along the keel of the model. The struts and supports are a combination of toothpicks and matchsticks cut to size.

She aint perfect, however, I like the result. I am considering rigging but I will wait for a little while before I attempt this - I'm not so good at rigging.

Comments and critiques via the Board are welcome as always.
