LÉ Cliona

1/72 LÉ Cliona (Revell Germany/Matchbox)

LÉ Cliona was made with 20% of it being converted and scratchbuilt from the super former Matchbox Flower Class Corvette kit that I highly recommend. The kit is an ultra fun model to build and my joint favorite along with my Shi Lang Carrier Model.

LÉ Cliona(03) was a Flower class corvette in the Irish Naval Service. She was named after Cliodhna an ancient Irish goddess of love. Flower Class Corvettes were the only Irish Navy ships ever to have ASW capability and were used mostly for fisheries protection. She was the former HMS Bellwort (K114). Bellwort was built by George Brown & Co, Greenock. Handed over to the Naval Service on 3 February 1947and commissioned Cliona by Lt. Walter J. Ready the same day. She was sold to Haulbowline Industries for scrap on and was removed to Passage West on the 4 November 1970.
