PT-10 was built at the Elco Naval Division in Bayonne, New Jersey, and was Elco's first built PT Boat. This wonderful boat was made from many types of wood, and was a seventy-footer built for speed, and launching torpedoes. Elco would start this construction in January of 1940. The boat would be powered by three 1,200 HP Packard Marine Engines, and have two hydraulically driven 50 caliber gun turrets in Plexiglas Domes. She would also carry four MK-VII Torpedoes.
Because no Kits of this boat were offered from any Company, she would have to be scratch built. My friend, Al Ross sent me his 1/32 scale plans and we were off to the races. I had always wanted this boat in my Mosquito Fleet Exhibit, so I contacted my good friend and Master Model Builder, Stan Pienkowski. Stan has done the majority of my PT BOATS, so it was fitting that he would build this boat. Over the months ahead, I would stop at Stan's to check out the boat, which was coming along very well. The biggest challenge Stan would face would be the building of those Plexiglas covered turrets, which I am saddened to say, were built from New York Yankees Gold Ball Holders. I hope you enjoy the photo's of this most exciting build.
