1/100 Nao San Gabriel 1497 (Ocidental Réplicas)
This old model was manufactured in 1997 by Ocidental Replicas for the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the maritime way to India ( 1497-1499 ) by the Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama. Some time later was manufactured by Revell and at the present day by Zvezda as 16th century sailing ship. Both with plastic sails, unlike Ocidental with linen cloth. The kit includes an archangel Gabriel as figurehead and a cross column with coat of arms to the Portuguese crown. The figurehead was later used. At this time religious images in the ships were abaft by way of altarpiece. That is what I have done. The sails have their shapes, bonnets and bolt-ropes made with sewing machine
