PURITAN was a gaff rigged Americas Cup defender, a centreboarder
known colloquially as a 'skimming dish', this line of development
culminated in the formation of a more" sensible" class of Americas Cup
yachts; namely the legendary J-class( of which there are still 3
British Yachts in original rig format in existence) The model was
built by me as a plank-on -frame model from a Malmoli wooden kit in 1993,
the word 'Kit 'being a slight misnomer(!); a collection of raw-materials
with drawings would be a closer description!; a huge amount of scratchbuilding
in timber being required!Being a sailmaker by profession was a helpful
attribute ....! The boltropes were all handsewn around the sail perimeters,
the eyelets were hollow tubular rivets from the ModelRailway world closed
with a springloaded centre punch.
