The History

V108 was one of four torpedo boats, ordered for the Dutch Navy and built by the Vulcan shipyard in Stettin. V108 was built in 1914. At the beginning of WWI the Imperial German navy took over all 4 boats (V105 – V108) and they where deployed as a training flotilla.

At the end of the First World War V108 together with his sistership V105 were ceded to Poland and V108 was renamed ORP Kaszub.

In 1925 V108 sank as a result of boiler explosion in the port of Danzig, with the loss of three of her crew.

The Model

V108 is my first papership and it is based on the free download available from Digital Navy. Additionally I used some photoetched parts and scratchbuilt a number of components of the model (the guns are made up of from 17 individual parts).

The model of V108 is shown leaving her harbour base for a training excercise. I corrected the shape of the after funnel to an oval shape. Portholes had rings made of brass wire, and wherever possible I used the card parts in conjunction with metal and other materials.
