Here are some additional pictures of my Shell Welder. Some Details of the build are as follows: This was built from the Eastern Express re-issue of the old Frog kit. The Atlantic photo etched sheet for this kit was used. It is very comprehensive and really enhances the model, but be warned that it is short on railings by a good 10 inches or so. I had to find some additional railings from my spares stash to complete the model as I was reluctant to purchase an additional set just for the railings. Please Atlantic, if your reading this, include some additional railings to complete what is otherwise an excellent set! The model was finished with a variety of paints from Model Master, Floquil and Polly S to Krylon. The green used for the main deck is Floquil Model RR MKT Green and the bottom color is the old Floquil Marine Colors Bottom Coating Red (unfortunately this color is out of production as it's my favorite bottom color). One of the most challenging aspects of building this model is painting all the piping on the pipe deck. Rather than trying to paint it by hand, or mask it off and spray it, I decided to cut thin strips of black decal film in short lengths and apply them one at a time. Very tedious and time consuming, but the end result was cleaner than anything I have done to date. Give it a try, it's not as bad as it sounds. The wood decks were painted using various shades of tan and carefully masking each layer with thin strips of masking tape, also very tedious, but not difficult! The excellent kit decals were used and went on fine with a little Micro Sol. The entire model was over coated with Dullcoat and the light weathering was done with pastels. The windows were done with Testors Crystal Clear Window adhesive. The rigging is a combination of .010 brass wire blackened with Hobby Black and invisible sewing tread painted Polly S Dirty White and Black. And yes, I realize the Stars and Stripes are inappropriate on a British ship, however this was built for a private collector and that's what he requested. And the customer is always right... If you have any other ships please send them as well when you have time. If you would please include a few details about your build so I can add it to the page.
