Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller (LEGO)
The ships of the Triple-E class are currently the largest in the world. Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller is the lead ship of the class and entered service in 2013. The 20 identical ships are 1,309 feet long and 194,153 DWT with a capacity if 18,270 TEU.
Recently Lego commissioned a Creator series model depicting the Triple-E class and of course I had to have it. Lego and Maersk are both based in Denmark so it seems like a natural choice for them. Lego seems to run these sets more-or-less as limited editions and they are already starting to become hard to find. It's much less a scale model and more of a display piece, similar to their Ferrari kits when the two partnered a few years ago.
The first thing about the set I noticed was how heavy the box was. The kit contains 1,518 pieces and measures over two-feet. Also, it's wide and tall too so it does build into an impressive model but the container loads are obviously simplified but they look the part. In reality, they'd appear much smaller. In lego scale, the containers are lose to 100 feet long!
It took about 3 days to finish and was definitely an enjoyable break
from my usual stuff.
