One of my school books .... way back in the late 60's was called "Pictorial & Practical English". It was a book used to teach English though comprehensions. On each page there was a short bit of text, a picture illustrating what the text was about and a series of questions for the student to answer.
One of those exercises was about the Savannah. The picture showed a truly "space aged" ship ..... with beautiful modern lines and nuclear power to boot. It is difficult today with all the bad press nuclear power has received to understand the promise she represented for the peaceful use of nuclear power.
The picture remained in my mind for these last 40 years and finally I've got around to building her, to 1:600 of course. Given the historical importance of this ship it is surprising she has been largely neglected by the kit manufacturers.
The model has been scratchbuilt using plastic card and plastic rod with WEM etched brass fittings and stretched sprue for rigging.
