1/700 RMS Britannic 1920 (Revell)
After having finished my Academy 1/600 Titanic, I was contemplating doing a mod with the Academy 1/600 and building RMS Britannic had she survived the First World War. However, after consultation with a close friend who mentioned the Revell 1/700 Titanic model lends itself to be a blank canvas for modification to any of the other two Olympic Class sisters I decided to build the Britannic using the Revell. Began the project in Sept 2022 and finished in Oct 2024, an entire two year ordeal. What I did with this build was purchase aftermarket pieces such as Children's playroom, freightliner, gantry davits and lifeboats from Shapeways, China 3d and fellow group members from Titanic groups on Facebook. While other parts such as the Superstructure and its extended aft well deck were heavily modified using evergreen strips. The aft areas of the ship such as the poop and aft decks were scrapped and V groove sheets were used as replacement. In addition, Artwox veneers were used to cover up major areas of surgery with the kit. With the shelter deck that's only found on Britannic, the top deck, I used V groove sheets and traced the basic poop deck, then using a cutting tool, trimmed down the excess and polished. The inner housing, I kit bashed pieces from a spare Revell Titanic's second class section and basic evergreen strips. For the main deckhouses from funnel three and four, I did more kitbashing to join funnel casing three and the tank house as one unit using evergreen strips. Also did the same with Funnel four casing, using the spare Titanic kit, I cut off one of the tail ends of funnel three casing on the portside and joined it with funnel four using Tamiya cement.Later sanded and polished this area. Those evergreen strips saved the day. These mods took about a year. Then, after that, the build became easier which added bibs and bobs to what you see here on these final photos. Truly proud of what I was able to pull off with the Revell.
