SS Independence

1/600 SS Independence (Scratchbuilt)

Some 35 years ago I saw a small sketch of Indy in her sunburst livery. I’ve always wanted to build a model of her and things came to a head when I saw a colour picture of her in the April 2005 issue of Ships Monthly magazine. I managed to get a set of plans from Plans N Things on ebay and the rest is history.

What with all my other commitments, the model took the better part of 8 months to build. Still, it was great fun. The scheme she is wearing is …….shall we say …. colourful! A marked difference from my other ships.

Everything is scratchbuilt in plastic with the insides of the ship’s boats in resin. Etched brass fittings were from Loren Perry’s Gold Medal Models merchant ship set.
